📚REVIEW📚 Lullaby of the Dead

Image
Lullaby of the Dead: Every Ghost Has a Story by Lynn Lamb My rating: 5 of 5 stars This book was absolutely fascinating! From time to time, Landry isn’t likable, but she is heartbreakingly human. She learns, grows, and evolves from an office worker into a warrior with a purpose. This thriller/horror is well thought out in how all the supernatural elements work and interact with the real world. It was fascinating digging into each character's past and how they each feel about the present. There is a bit of a love story in there, but I wouldn’t say it’s the focus, but rather the seasoning. I’m eager to see how this world of the dead evolves throughout the series! Available on Amazon View all my reviews  on goodreads

📚REVIEW📚 Of Magic and Moonlight

Image
Of Magic and Moonlight by Elena Lawson My rating: 5 of 5 stars Well now! We get to dig more into Harper’s past, as ghosts haunt her every step. We get some witches up to no good (though we don’t find out who they are), a vampire, and a secret room. As far as character development goes, we don’t get too much. This particular book is more plot-driven than character-driven. It feels a little bit short/abrupt because of it. There was also more of the Harper/professor relationship, which is a trope that I’m not a fan of. The relationship between Harper and her familiars is a bit lost in the action. The action itself was amazing! I really enjoyed the mystery and the “am I going crazy?” moments, including a certain ghost from the 1920s! Available on Amazon View all my reviews  on goodreads

📚REVIEW📚 Enchant: Beauty and the Beast Retold

Image
Enchant: Beauty and the Beast Retold by Demelza Carlton My rating: 5 of 5 stars This was a great reimagining of Beauty and the Beast! Great characters and an enthralling love story. I loved the combination of the enchantress and Beauty, turning an already strong character into something new. The beast curse made much more sense. The story combines various versions of the fairytale, coming up with a fresh take that also feels familiar in a comforting way. I can’t wait to dig into more of the series, and maybe see the comeuppance of a certain character. Available on Amazon View all my reviews  on goodreads

📚REVIEW📚 Awake

Image
Awake by Jennifer Reynolds My rating: 5 of 5 stars Awake was unlike any other zombie apocalypse novel I’ve ever read! The story follows a former zombie, after receiving the cure. The opening was absolutely brilliant and sucked me right in. Throughout the story, you discover the character's history or as much of it comes back to Liv as she starts having dreams and flashbacks about being a zombie and before she was bitten. This was a fascinating look at the What If’s of zombies, delving into much more than survival into the rebuilding of society, prejudice, finding love, and starting life again with a fresh start (though not so much a clean slate!) if you love zombie fiction, I highly recommend Jennifer Reynolds’s books, especially this one, if you’re looking for something fresh in the genre! 📚REVIEW📚 Born Bad

Image
Born Bad by Sarah Noffke My rating: 5 of 5 stars Great wrap up of an awesome series! There were a few more wolf surprises in this book that I got super excited about. These weres are right up my ally! This also gave Adelaide a sweet finish to her story arc in this particular series. I hope to see more of her in other dream traveler books! As for the men in the story, I’m sure there’s plenty more to tell, but I really enjoyed their arcs, especially Conner’s. I finally got used to the narrators pronunciation of werewolves (she says “we’re-wolves” instead of “where-wolves”) and I appreciate the different voices she used for each character while not getting too ridiculous with men vs women tones. 📚REVIEW📚 Corrupted Enchantment: When Fairy Tales Collide

Image
Corrupted Enchantment: When Fairy Tales Collide by C. Penticoff My rating: 4 of 5 stars An interesting blending of tales First off, I loved the character of Robin Hood! I loved the classic character reimagined as a young girl. There were all sorts of fairytales in this book Everything from Rumplestilskin to Alice in Wonderland. I loved those parts. However, the political undercurrent was a little on the nose for my tastes (Rump running for president) and while I know social and political issues need addressing in literature, I found them a bit distracting. It made me feel a bit like I was watching the news, not reading a novel. Now, some readers will love that aspect, I’m just not the target for that particular story. Outside of the politics, there was some classic good versus evil moments, some fun character cameos, and a great ‘save the world’ aspect. I’m also wondering if there will be a sequel because there are plenty of characters that I’d love to get to know better!
