Magical Reality Author Interview - Pyra Kane

Today we are talking with the author of “Submerged Revive”, Pyra Kane.

What was your inspiration for this story?

It was as simple as the thought popping into my head. Mermaids and soul-collecting are two interesting concepts. So I slapped them together, and started writing. Although the characters in my story aren’t exactly mermaids, that’s easily what they’re based off of.

Who is your favorite character in your story and why?

Can my answer be ‘all of them?’ No? Okay, if I had to choose one, it’d probably be Ceru, Chartreuse’s older brother. He was a fun guy to write for, and it’s so endearing how much he cares for Charteuse.

What is your writing process like?

It’s not much of a set process. My new job has kept me busy most of the time, so whenever I can, I try to sit down and write however many words I can manage.

Is fantasy the genre you usually write in?

I’m more of a multi-genre author. Some of my planned works are fantasy, but I also have some sci-fi and psychological stories I want to write as well.

How long on average does it take you to write a story?

Depends on the idea, the minimum/maximum word limit, what else I have going on in my life. It takes about a couple weeks, I’d say.

How important was research to you when writing this story?

Pretty important. I spent most of my research time reading about cruise ships, since the original idea took place within a sunken ship. But when things changed to taking Chartreuse onto an island, I had to read up on Hawaii’s folklore and local marine life.

Are there any books that you are currently reading and why?

I actually just received a copy of Jenna Moreci’s “The Savior’s Champion,” and I’m pretty excited to jump in! She’s been my favorite writing Youtuber for a few years now, and this will be my first time reading one of her stories.

What are you writing now or what are you planning on writing next?

One is a death-themed short story, and the other is a fantasy-adventure novel about a character in a video game.

Do you have any upcoming releases?

I suppose if the death-themed short story is accepted, then yes, I’ll have one.

Where can we find you?
